ISO 9001 is the most common standard that specifies requirements for quality management systems. The standard is recognized worldwide and is designed to help all organizations (regardless of industry or size) improve their performance, meet customer expectations and demonstrate their commitment to quality. The requirements in ISO 9001 specify how to: establish, implement, maintain and continuously improve a quality management system (QMS).
In August 2023, an international consultation decided to revise the 2015 ISO 9001 standard. The update is intended to bring the standard in line with current needs, market requirements and technological advances. The plan is for the new ISO 9001 standard to take effect in 2026.
The updated edition will expand the subject area included in the standard by adding:
- sustainable development integrated with quality,
- modern technologies,
- holistic view of customer relations,
- ethical practices in business and organizational culture in the context of quality management.
At what stage is the update of ISO 9001?
